A delightful and charming romantic comedy starring Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams, Midnight In Paris opens in cinemas around the country on October 20. The film is set in Paris and follows a successful Hollywood screenwriter named Gil (Wilson) who is a self-confessed nostalgist besotted with Paris in the golden age of the 1920s.  Through Gil’s meanderings along the Paris city streets, he embarks on an enchanted journey to discover the streets alive with hidden wonders that will change his life forever.

Without giving away too much of the plot, there are quite a few flashback scenes to the 1920s, with plenty of gorgeous flapper dresses and tuxedos to drool over, so for the fashionista there is plenty of Parisian vintage to ogle!

There was a lot to watch at NYFW, but we were all eyes for Rebecca Minkoff’s new collection and enjoyed spotting RGB nail colour across various catwalks. Go behind the scenes with Rebecca Minkoff:

Brights, blocking and exotic textures continued to feature on the runways for the SS12 collections, extending the trends seen in the AW11.12 lineups. Accessories took front and centre, with almost all designers showcasing their offerings on the catwalks.

After a few seasons of outlandish manicures, nail trends have favoured the sedate and classic, with a traditional palette of nudes and reds seen almost everywhere.

RGB polishes were seen at (following) Caroline Herrera (RGB10), Derek Lam (Buff), Rag & Bone (Stone), Donna Karan (Crimson) and Jason Wu (Too Red).

OK, so we have to admit that we’re only ever so slightly inspired by True Blood this week, but chanelling all the way back to gothic-inspired glamour which is the signature of FENTON’s Midnight at Versailles jewellery collection.

Iconic gothic masterpiece, The Nightmare (1781) by Henry Fuseli was our starting point: the tension between love, lust and danger is so tightly depicted that it’s still leaves even a contemporary viewer feeling uncomfortable. After something a bit more up-to-date in your culture stakes? Well, there’s True Blood, of course, as well as cinematic classic, Nosferatu.

Either way, we’re pairing some knockout FENTON jewels with a slick of blood red polish from RGB and we’re set for the midnight hour.

Neutrals went hand in hand with the resurging trend for all things sheer and lightweight; from cream to beige, pastel pink to apricot they were present through silks, chiffons and lace.

Brights
Bright bold block colours, the more saturated the better, ruled the runway at many shows – worn head to toe or colour blocked with a contrasting shade it was a fight between aqua, pink and tangerine.

Desert
Developing on from winter collections’ fascination with all things camel, we’re seeing stronger desert-like colours emerge such as gold, rust, taupe, bronze, orange and russet red.

Monochrome
There is a reason black and white is timeless – it always works and was strongly featured at many shows that chose to use its simplicity to highlight structure and detail in garments.
